The Tuesday that defied all myths..

Has anyone ever heard of Black Uhuru? They're a reggae group, and they sing a nice ditty called "Mondays". It goes kind of like this.. "One day I don't enjoy... is a Mondayyy". Well, if I were Black Uhuru I would've written the song about Tuesdays. Tuesday is a day I most definitely do not enjoy. French and Math on Tuesdays.. no Gym or Film.. nothing to do in the evening, that sort of thing. Buuut. Lately my Tuesdays have been getting better and better. Next Tuesday, I'm skipping a day of school to run one race at the track meet, and hang around for the rest of the time. Today I got kicked out of math for being "sassy" and spent the entire time drawing patterns with sharpie on a piece of paper. Now, in my view that's a good thing. Mainly because of the absence of maths. Now, another great thing about today is the rain. It is currently raining outside my window, which makes everything look grey and green and drippy. A wonderful thing for someone who lives in a cold-and-dry-as-hell climate. The most exciting thing about Tuesday was probably getting my email read on "The Hour". Now, I admit to have an ounce too many blogs right now on The Hour, but I couldn't miss a brief mention of the show. Or perhaps a paragraph. A little paragraph..

(the little paragraph)
So, I recently had a blog beautifully entitled "Why I wouldn't be caught dead getting shoved into that Panel Van or having my email read on The Hour". It was mainly about.. why I wouldn't be caught dead getting shoved into that Panel Van or having my email read on The Hour. So, I got a very encouraging reply from Barbara, which made me think about having a go at sending an email. So after hearing about Neil Young's "Let's Impeach the President" song, I thought I came up with an adequate reply. And Strombo read it!! I was very happy about this, and ran upstairs to my father, blathering about it (although he probably couldn't understand). Anyways;; I was extremely ecstatic about this (you should've seen me). But I do feel the need to explain the email in greater depth.
(wasn't it cute?)

Now, I would really love to "impeach that cat", almost as much as Neil Young does. But pessimistic (and possibly realistically) I don't think anything would happen to send Dubyah out of office. George Bush is definitely not Nixon-ly scandalous. There are so many people who believe every single word that comes out of his mouth, therefore they have reasoning not to believe the evidence against him. These are the people who voted for him. George Bush's deception is much more subtle in my belief, even after the evidence has been presented. There is nothing obvious enough to scream out "Impeach him". Although I am not saying I agree with what he has done, and I am definitely not taking it lightly. There are too many powerful conservatives in America that this would have to pass through, which to me makes impeachment seem out of the question. Never less, I owe it to Neil Young for singing about what he believes in, and perhaps opening some eyes to the injustice of George W. Bush.

Well, now it's sunny and raining, which is just adding to the greatness of this Tuesday.

merci beaucoup bon soir.

hilary m.

(Dubyah and Old Neil)

Neil Young's "Living with War" is now on sale at most music stores.

Good on You! You did it. I heard him read it. Did you tape it?
I agree with you, so did he.
I was so suprised when he read my letter, I only taped that part at the 11pm broadcastor was it 2am? I played it for my 17 year old niece and all she could say was how 'hot' George Stroumboulopoulos is. Well yeah, he is hot.

I put your blog on my links. Other Hour fans may drop in to say hi.

That was a grand letter you wrote too, Hilary. I know it's been said before, but I wish someone would just give Dubya a bj so they could impeach him.

I was loving the rain on Tuesday too.

I agree on most levels; but, I think there is a plethora of deplorable things that he should be held responsible for: Guantanimo Bay, the Iraq War, Katrina, etc... Each one of these issues clearly display a grosse incompetence in the Bush administration.

Something seems to be out of balance if we are willing to look back to why Pres. Clinton was impeached, and then juxtapose those actions against the actions of GW. Why hasn't it happend yet?

Because, his party, the Republican party, has pervaded every branch of the US government. They are unwilling to do anything about it, their private interests have taken precedence over the publics.

And sadly, as you had pointed out, the American public seems to have glibly accepted it.

Anyways, I love the blog...keep up the good work.

p.s. what is this show: The Hour?

Oh Barbara B. I don't think there is a woman out there who would wanna do that to 'dubya' not even to save the world. *shudders*
Clinton is another story.
I should shut up now.
Congrats Hilary, You got a link in The Hour now!

thanks barbara(s)!
and yes, I did tape it!
or well.. my dad insisted on taping it. hehe.

and you're right barbara b., I would love if something deliciously scandalous happened to Dubyah..

thank you very much for the insight sylvan, I do think that there are many obvious things that the bush administration should be held accountable for, and I find it horribly undemocratic that people haven't seriously considered Bush's actions worthy of impeachment, especially compared to Clinton. I really hope eyes will begin to open regarding this.

as for the Hour it is a self described "irreverent, 'round-the-world, mile-a-minute look at news and current affairs that's actually fun to watch" it's hosted by George Stroumboulopoulos, a well-known Canadian pop culture "icon". You can catch it in Canada on CBC Newsworld at 6:00PM (Mountain Time). the website is..http://www.cbc.ca/thehour/

why thankyou laura.

seems like all I'm getting a lot nice compliments.

I can't wait until someone disagrees!

Well, I don't have a disagreement with you Hilary, just a point of clarification for Barbara W on her statement: "I don't think there is a woman out there who would wanna do that to 'dubya' not even to save the world."

Who said it had to be a woman?

Surely there are some brave men out there who are willing to take one for the good of the world.

hilary m. said...

if there are any willing men out there I will personally buy them a drink.

and give them a ceramic orange and white cat. slightly aged. small hole patched with (orange) bandaids on the right leg. and perhaps a laminated poster that says "MUSIC, Across the Continent" from my last social assignment.

Rolling on the floor!! You have a point Barbara B and Hilary M.

Hey there Hilary! I first noticed the link to your site on The Hour's website, and upon reading a discussion between "The Barbaras" it was apparent I needed to come here to check out a good read. I'm loving the blog, and kudos for having George read your email! You and Barbara are making me jealous! :P

Anyways, if you don't mind, I'm going to post your site link on my blog. Later!

"George Bush's deception is much more subtle in my belief, even after the evidence has been presented. There is nothing obvious enough to scream out "Impeach him". "

You need to educate yourself:

Bush conducted illegal wiretaps on millions of american citizens; he lied about the rationale for war, Bush and his team have set up a system of prisons around the world where prisoners can be tortured and thus Bush is guilty of violating of the Federal Torture Act, the UN Torture Convention and the Geneva Convention.

And of course there's 911 (building 7 is so obvious its funny)

hilary m. said...

Well, you are right in that what Bush has done is worthy of impeachment.

I didn't mean to say that he hasn't done anything atrocious or terribly irresponsible. I just meant to say, that many Americans don't know to believe the incredible evidence against him. It's subtle because the Bush administration will always have some kind of bullshit rational for what they have done, and some people will be ignorant enough to believe it. Why else would've he won 2 elections in a row? Impeachment is definitely not undeserved, but I believe that there isn't a big possibility.

Thanks for the feedback though, you make a valuable point. And I'm sorry if you see me as uneducated, after all, I'm only a teenager.

I think the subtlety is due to the corporate owned media. There is dissent but the mainstream media won’t cover it fairly if at all. Big corporations love Bush. They’re the prime benefactors in this budding dictatorship: and now they are the gate keepers of information. I have recently come to realize that the Clintons are no gem either. Watch Hillary sell out. Their system is corrupt and ours following suit.

I love the fact you’re a teenager and at least looking at this stuff. Check out infowars.com. Its heavy, and you may have difficulty believing it but it is a side that you will not get on CBC, CNN, FOX, etc.

BTW the “educate yourself” comment is not meant to imply you are anything but smart. I think most people need to educate themselves (I’m not talking about formal education here) b/c you cannot rely on mainstream media to give all the facts. Plus, the facts they usually give are typically spun. And that is putting it nicely.

Alternative media in 2006, via the internet, has become more popular than mainstream. Check it out and make up your own mind.

hilary m. said...

thankyou for the recommendations.

you're right about the corporate-owned media. It worries me to watch fox news, or CNN and see how they cover politics.
