Camp Songs

I'm back from camp!

Well, only for today. I have to attend my grannies funeral, she passed away last Sunday. I'll be speaking, so wish me luck!

I've had a lot of fun at camp so far, canoeing, rock climbing, swimming. It's been awesome. Here are some songs I wish I could listen to whilst participating in those activities, at camp:

Hallelujah-Performed by Rufus Wainwright (This was playing in the van on the way back from river canoeing, I was about to cry)
Power Out-Arcade Fire (Appropriatly named)
Blackbird-The Beatles
Redemption Song-Joe Strummer & Johnny Cash
American Pie-Don Mclean (Cliche, but it really does well in a camp environment)
Is It Really So Strange?-The Smiths (This is a funny sing-along, if you're weird like me. I even can do actions)
I Want You-Bob Dylan
Complainte Pour St. Catherine-Kate and Anna McGarrigle (One of my counsellors is from Montreal, so I figured this is appropriate since my french is improving a little)
The Mariner's Revenge-The Decemberists
Music When The Lights Go Out-The Libertines
Reconstruction Site-The Weakerthans

There we go, I have a playlist but no iPod.

best wishes,

hilary m.

I am so sorry to hear about your grandma's passing, Hilary. My deepest condolences to your family.

But what a lovely summer camp song list. I love all of those songs, except I don't know the McGarrigles' one, but I do like them a lot (and they have such talented kids!)

Good luck speaking today, and enjoy the rest of camp when you head back.

Thank you very much Barbara. The speech was a great experience, but I got pretty choked up. Although, funerals are a great time for everyone to meet each other and get together. A whole bunch of people knew me, but I didn't know them.

Thanks!
If only I could listen to it at camp! I love those spunky McGarrigle sisters and thier wonderful kids. You should check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ojOiWq4wWc

I second Barbara, sorry to hear about your grandma's passing. You should be proud of yourself for speaking, its not an easy thing to do, at any age. I have an older family, so I've been to my share of funerals, and you're right, sometimes they are good places for everyone to catch up.

Nice playlist, I was listening to Redemption Song earlier this morning. Enjoy the rest of your time at camp!

Hey, I'm sorry to hear about your Grandma, that's unfortunate. That's so awesome that you were able to do your speech though, I'm sure it was hard but I bet it meant a lot to a lot of people. I hope your family's doing well. :)

Glad you're having such an good time at camp! That sucks that you can't listen to music all the time, but the song list sounds perfect, and it's so great when you're doing something and you think of a song while doing it, and then everytime you hear that song you think of that occasion. Sounds like that may happen with a few songs for you!

Hope you have more fun (rock climbing sounds scary), and I look forward to more details when you get back!

Thanks Allison and Alana, I was so honored to speak and I was glad it turned out so well.

I had a lot of fun at camp, now I'm having some trouble adjusting to technology. I can't even type!

Hope your guys' summers are great!

Wow. Good times, eh?
I got my pictures already and they all turned out excellent. Pretty soon I will have them on photobucket and you can check them out.
I hope all is well.

Welcome back Hilary! Hope you had an awesome time at camp, I look forward to hearing details!

And I'm sorry to hear about the broken camera. :( It's a good excuse to get a new one though!

Thanks Alana!
I better get posting about it soon, before I leave for Ontari-ari-ari-o. =)

Unfortunatly, the camera was a loaner from my dad. The real one I'm paying to get repaired, currently. Oh the luck.
